CYQAA Hosts ENQA Progress Visit

The Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education (CYQAA) had the pleasure of welcoming the ENQA Progress Visit Panel on 8 June 2026 at its premises in Nicosia.

The visit was conducted by the appointed ENQA experts, Liia Lauri and Padraig Walsh, as part of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) Agency Reviews process. Progress visits take place approximately two to three years after the completion of an agency's external review and the submission of its follow-up report to ENQA.

The purpose of the visit was to facilitate a strategic and enhancement-oriented dialogue between CYQAA and the experts, providing an opportunity for reflection on key developments, challenges, priorities, and future opportunities. Unlike the external review process, the progress visit does not assess compliance with the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG), but rather supports agencies in their continuous development and strategic planning.

During the visit, discussions focused on three key themes identified by CYQAA:

  • Recent decisions and policy developments undertaken in response to the recommendations of the ENQA review panel;
  • The autonomy and institutional independence of CYQAA;
  • CYQAA's strategic planning framework and future direction.

The programme included meetings with CYQAA's leadership and Board members, representatives of the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth, higher education institution leaders, students, and external stakeholders. The discussions provided a valuable opportunity to exchange perspectives on the progress achieved since the external review, current challenges facing quality assurance in higher education, and future priorities for the Agency.

CYQAA expresses its sincere appreciation to Liia Lauri and Padraig Walsh for their constructive engagement, expertise, and insightful contributions throughout the visit. The Agency also extends its gratitude to all participants and stakeholders who contributed to the discussions.

CYQAA remains committed to the continuous enhancement of quality assurance in higher education and values the ongoing cooperation and support of ENQA in advancing quality culture within the European Higher Education Area.
